Boy, sometimes the littlest things make the biggest difference! I am sure this is a no brainer for a lot of people, but what a difference it has made with my morning calendar routine! I started giving students individual white boards to do the calendar work on! Yeah, I know, not rocket science!
One student now leads the calendar and the rest of the students write the answers on their white boards. They all are on task instead of talking or just zoning out. And, with a quick glance, I can see whether they are doing it or not. They are getting the daily practice in important math skills everyday!

Isn't it amazing how the smallest "tweaks" can make the biggest changes?!!!

Great blog.

That is a great idea! Its kind of like an "Ah ha!" moment :). I should definitely do that with my Kindergarteners because they do have hard time staying focused if they are not the one sharing.
The roaming attention is exactly why I switched to Calendar Math Notebooks a couple of years ago. Engagement is the name of the game!!
